A short film by graduates of SVA. The animation might not be good, but the style and rigging is cool. As far as I know one of them is gonna be working in dreamworks.

A mtv which combines stunning vfx and a steampunk style. Love the neat head work done.

Ways to optimise rendering times. Very useful for poster size rendering where 4k by 6k is common.

Though strictly not a cg article, but there are things to be learned.

How a Singaporean can make it into Hollywood. How on big sets, you have to be more direct. How you would be having lots of anxiety and worry because you just want to get it right; and now more comfortable with occasionally getting it wrong.

An article in chinese about photography which strangely applies to any skill. This is about 10 reasons why your skill is not improving in photography.

Let me summarise here for those who can't read chinese.
1. Camera is not with you all the time. Same as paper and pencil is not with you all the time.
2. Unable to admire other people's work. Always thinking that other Masters have certain software or certain photoshop skill which you can't afford or learn.
3. Fast pace. Being in a fast-pace society, we often fail to look around our surrounding and take time to study them, the light, the shadow, the reflection etc...
4. Habit. The fact that you have certain methods that work prevents you from trying another way of doing things for fear of producing bad results. The ability to try new things is one of the ways to improve! No matter you fear or not, continue trying.
5. Scare of comparison. Self-explanatory.
6. Talk too much, do too little. Again self-explanatory.
7. Spending money on unnecessary stuff. Simply, don't buy things you are not gonna use or you won't have time to explore.
8. Not enough stamina. Simply, stay healthy, take care of yourself.
9. Not caring about the world around you. Again, observation.
10. Forever thinking you are a noob. By thinking this way, you won't push yourself to new challenges. Alot of people who are good at their craft are not talented but are willing to work at their craft, and they are no longer a noob within a year or 2. Why are you a noob after 2 years?

definitely one of the things modeller or otherwise, should read about. It teaches how to prepare your show reel from a zbrush perspective. Useful.

Plus Minus is the second original project to come out of Gnomon Studios. It's co-directed by feature film directors Shane Acker and Aristomenis Tsirbas.

Fancy using math to kill monster?
