Post Re: A Program to Help Artists to Get into the CG Industry
As a move to help more artists with financial problems. Now our course is 90% subsidised by Govt. On top of that, we understand this is difficult times. Hence CG Protege is not charging you a premium. Hence our 6 months course is now only $800. If you have finanical difficulty, we can look into allowing you to pay by installment as long as you have sufficient evidence to support your case. And we will extend the course for another 3 months at our own cost. This is on top of the 6 months to help weaker students. (This applies only to those who has not been skipping class and has been doing all assignments)

Post Program to Help Fresh 3d Artists during downturn
A program that we have put together to help fresh 3d artists during this economical downturn.

CG Protege Diploma / Apprentice Program - $1500 (after subsidy) for a 12 months program. (Net. No hidden cost)

Trainee will get $12,000 during training period.
Plus $700 a month from employee once attachment begins.
Plus valuable working experience.

Introduction:

Higher-level skills are required for employment at international companies and projects. In particular, big companies producing high end productions require candidates with both relevant skills and experience, as hiring someone fresh from training may slow the production team down.

The CG Protege Diploma / Apprentice program is designed to help skilled but less experienced artists upgrade themselves to prepare them for higher end international production, such as visual effects for Hollywood films, animated TV series and computer games for international releases. The Diploma / Apprentice program also gives artists a potentially better chance to be employed and gain valuable working experience with a full entry-level salary in this economic downturn.

Description:
The CG Protege Diploma/Apprentice program is designed to help skilled but less experienced artists address potential employers' concerns so as to obtain full employment and gain valuable working experience on international projects.

Employer Concern #1:
If you lack working experience, some companies are concerned that you will slow down their production if they were to put you on the front-line.

The CG Protege Diploma / Apprentice program will provide you with a training stipend of $1000 a month for a period of 12 months. This support is from WDA. On our part, we will also encourage our partnering companies to give you another $700 allowance once you begin on On Job Training. (We are selective towards companies we work with as we are concerned about our students' wellbeing and will ensure the apprenticeship has value towards their career.)

Out of the full entry starting salary of $1700, the company is only paying you $700. Hence hiring an apprentice through our program reduces the company's risk of hiring a less experienced employee. As $1700 is an apprentice's pay, and not an intern's pay, you will need to have basic specialised production skills and ability in order for the company to put you in the frontline as an apprentice.

Employer Concern #2:
Some companies are reluctant to take in a fresh artist as they do not have the time and resources to look after "someone with zero experience".

Our program addressess this concern by continued upgrading of the apprentice through night-classes at CG Protege during the apprenticeship period. Our trainers work with the employers to create structured training to match their specific needs. The companies we are partnering with, including Double Negative, Ubisoft, One Animation etc. have responded positively to our tailored training plans. We are also talking to 2 major overseas companies to send our apprentices overseas for training.

Hence the CG Protege Diploma / Apprentice program reduces the financial risk of a company taking in a fresh candidate and in return, you will be employed and paid full entry level salary during this economic downturn, gaining valuable experience. With good on-the-job performance after a year, the companies are also most likely to extend your employment.

With this effort, we hope that we can raise the standard of Singapore's pool of talents as well as help them pull through this tough time. When the economy picks up, we will then have a stronger and more ready pool of talents for new challenges ahead.

Specialisations

1) Animation
2) Visual Effects
3) Modeling and Texturing
4) Texturing and Lightings
5) Modeling and Rigging.

Admissions

Target Trainees

The program is not meant to train talents without any background or skills. To qualify, you need to have basic specialised production ability in order for the company to put you on the frontline.

Trainees will be attached to a company for a period of up to 12 months.

The objective of the training is to help you gain on-the-job production experience, learning about production operational pipeline, and further hone your
skills in your area of specialization. You are expected to already have basic skills on how to animate, model, texture, create vfx etc.

Other Trainees' Criteria

You need to be a Singaporean or Singapore PR. This program is not meant for those still National Service.

Selection Process

All potential trainees will have to go through a selection process before we can admit you into the program.
We need to be sure that you have basic specialised production abilities before we can introduce you to a company to work as an apprentice.

Interested candidates, please contact us at to arrange for a studio visit and briefing session.

Fees & Duration

Program Fees

Program fees are kept at a subsidized rate of S$1500.

Program Duration

The Diploma / Apprentice Program is a full-time program up to 12 months, with addiional training hours in the evening to help you further enhance your skills
based on the employer's feedback.

The training schedule will be worked out with the company you are attached to once your attachment begin.

Mentors

All mentors / instructors for the program are working professionals in the CG industry who have between 2 to 7 years production experience each. These are the people who have gone through the same route as you and they understand your problems and needs.

Graduation Criteria

All trainees are expected to achieve at least 90% attendance for the evening training and complete up to 12 months apprenticeship with the assigned company.

Employment

Upon completion of the program, the company you attached to can hire you as a fulltime staff since you have already been working with them for a year.

Or they can extend your apprenticeship for 3 to 12 months. This can be done through MDA Media Attachment and Training (META) Programme (Wihout the night training component as compared to our Diploma / Apprentice Scheme)

http://www.mda.gov.sg/wms.www/devnpolicies.aspx?sid=530

Through this scheme, like our diploma / apprentice scheme, you will receive a monthly stipend of $1000. Up to a period of 3 to 12 months. We will encourage our partnering companies to top up another $700 for you. In this way, you will continue to stay employed and gain production experience on a full fresh gradate salary.

Please note that upon completion of the 12 months Diploma / Apprentice Program, you are required to work in the local CG industry for 1 year. The 1 year bond will only begin from the day you step into the CG Industry.

Hopefully with this effort, we can help trainees pull through this 2 years of global economic downturn.
